A little prep can go a long way at your campsite pizzeria. Using pre-made dough saves time and simplifies meal prep since there’s no need to wait for the dough to rise. For an even quicker setup, shred your mozzarella at home, or pack pre-shredded cheese. While you’re at it, prep any meats and veggies for your toppings before you leave. Chances are you won’t need a whole onion or bell pepper for your pizza anyway, so chopping ingredients in advance not only cuts down on cooking time, but also frees up valuable cooler space. Less work at camp = more time enjoying the outdoors.

Equipment Required:

  • Cast Iron Skillet
  • Silicone Handle Grip
  • Camp Utensil Set

Ingredients

Serving Size: 2 x 10-12 in. Pizzas

  • Pizza dough (divided into 2)
  • Pizza Sauce
  • Sliced or Shredded Mozzarella
  • Veggies (Bell Peppers, Onions, Spinach, Tomatoes etc.)
  • Meats (Pepperoni, Bacon, Ham, Chicken, etc.)
  • Optional: Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Fresh Basil for Garnish

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Directions

  1. Grab one ball of your pizza dough and begin to stretch it out across the surface of the cast iron skillet. Gently press it down into the skillet to help keep its shape.
  2. Place the cast iron skillet over the fire for about 3-5 minutes, allowing the dough to begin to cook and crisp up on the bottom. (Avoid cooking over big flames – you will have a much easier time cooking your pizza over hot embers)
  3. Remove the skillet from the heat. Grab your tongs and carefully flip the dough so the uncooked side is facing down on the pan. Be sure to place the skillet on a heat-safe surface.
  4. It's time for toppings! Add your pizza sauce, shredded cheese, and the meats and/or veggies of your choosing.
  5. Cover your pizza with tinfoil. Place the skillet back over the fire and cook for another 3 minutes. This will help the cheese melt to gooey perfection.
  6. Once the cheese is melted, carefully remove the tin foil. Leave the skillet on the heat for another few minutes to ensure the crust cooks through. Check occasionally to ensure your crust is cooking evenly and not burning – things can change quick!
  7. Remove the skillet from the fire and serve.
  8. Feeling boujee? Grab that EVOO and fresh basil and sprinkle that on top. Ciao!
